What are sick visits?

Sick visits are a type of medical appointment designed to diagnose and treat acute illnesses, injuries, and chronic diseases in children and adolescents. Even if your child is relatively healthy, at some point, they’re bound to experience a sore throat, stomach ache, or sports-related injury that requires prompt medical care. 

Scheduling a sick visit at KID-DOC Pediatrics is a convenient way to pinpoint the underlying cause of your child’s discomfort and to get them on the road to recovery. It also presents an opportunity to ask your son or daughter’s provider questions about unusual symptoms or to discuss any other health concerns you or your child might have. 

The team understands that certain health problems require immediate attention. That’s why they always set aside time for same-day sick visits. 

When should I schedule a same-day sick visit?

Most minor illnesses and injuries respond to conservative measures of care such as rest, over-the-counter medications, ice, and drinking plenty of fluids. However, if your son or daughter’s symptoms persist or get worse, it’s important to seek medical help. 

At KID-DOC Pediatrics, the caring providers regularly accept same-day sick visits to diagnose and treat:

• High fevers
• Severe abdominal pain
• Serious injuries, including falls and concussions
• Trouble swallowing
• Rashes

You should also schedule a same-day sick visit for your child if they’re experiencing a severe headache combined with vomiting or fever.

What happens during a sick visit?

A sick visit at KID-DOC Pediatrics begins with a comprehensive physical exam and a review of your child’s medical history. Your child’s provider also asks you and your child questions about their symptoms and their severity. 

During this appointment, make sure to let your child’s KID-DOC Pediatrics provider know about any chronic conditions your son or daughter has, as well as any prescription medications, vitamins, or nutritional supplements they’re taking. Child MUST be up to date with Well Child checkups and ADHD or asthma visits to receive refills.

After gathering this information, your child’s provider develops a custom care plan to ease your son or daughter’s uncomfortable symptoms and to help them feel better. 

Is there any way to prevent the need for a sick visit?

There’s no way to prevent the need for sick visits entirely. However, you can significantly lower your child’s risk of potential health problems by regularly attending scheduled pediatric appointments, following the recommended vaccination schedule, and encouraging good hygiene like hand washing.
